Visitor Information
Ramana Kendram Bay Area is a center for those drawn to the life and teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi and the practice of Self-Inquiry.
The center warmly welcomes everyone who earnestly seeks inner peace. The meditation hall, gallery, library, and surrounding grounds are open during daylight hours and offers a serene space for visitors seeking moments of quiet contemplation. Due to our remote location and staff scheduling, please contact us here to make prior visiting arrangements.
Guests are invited to participate in the light daily schedule. In the spirit of Sri Ramanasramam, there is no charge for those wishing to benefit from the center’s facilities. However, we gratefully accept tax-deductible donations from those who appreciate and support the Kendram’s principles and ideals.

How to Get Here
Driving to the Kendram is a pilgrimage—an intentional journey. The center is located about 13.75 miles up Mines Road, which is sometimes steep and often winding. There are several pullouts along the way if you need to pull over. Upon arrival, you're welcomed into a sanctuary of stillness and silence.
Driving Notes
- If you are travelling from the I-580/Livermore area, follow the directions to Tesla Road.
- Be sure to turn left to continue on Mines Road rather than going straight to Lake Del Valle.
- Soon after you see the “17.5” mile road marker, you will find the Ramana Kendram Bay Area sign on your right. Pull into the area in front of the gate and enter the code given to you when you made arrangements to visit.
- After entering the gate, stay on the paved road up the hill. It is about a ¾ mile drive. If someone is coming down the drive, you will be alerted at the gate so that you can wait until the road is clear.
- You will see a barn when you reach the end of the paved road. Turn left and park in the gravel area leading to the main (round) house.
- It is a good idea to wear supportive shoes since the Kendram is located on a ranch.
